R-407C matches R-22’s properties more closely than any of the common alternatives, but it requires POE lubricant — so the system has to be converted off mineral oil first. That makes it a planned job rather than a quick swap. If you need to avoid the oil change, look at R-421A, R-422D, R-427A or R-438A instead.

The refrigerant boils and condenses across a temperature range rather than at a single point, so superheat must be calculated from the dew point and subcooling from the bubble point.
