A single 20 lb cylinder of R-454B, the blend selected by most manufacturers as the primary replacement for R-410A in new residential and light commercial air conditioning and heat pumps. It is A2L, mildly flammable, and its glide is low but not zero. Equipment must be listed for it — this is not a retrofit for an installed R-410A system.

Compatibility, lubricant and handling questions technicians ask about R-454B

Is R-454B a drop-in replacement for R-410A?

No. It is the refrigerant most manufacturers chose for new equipment designed around it, not a retrofit for an installed R-410A system. R-454B is A2L — mildly flammable — and R-410A equipment is not listed for a flammable refrigerant.

Is R-454B flammable?

Yes, mildly — it carries the A2L classification. Service and charging equipment must be A2L-rated, technicians need to be familiar with the handling requirements, and storage at pallet quantity has its own siting rules.

Why did manufacturers choose R-454B over R-32?

Largely a global warming potential and system-design trade-off, and manufacturers split on it. R-454B became the dominant choice for new residential and light commercial split systems and heat pumps in the US, while R-32 took a larger share in ductless and VRF. Does R-454B have glide?

It has a small amount — low, but not zero. Charge it as a liquid and take the glide into account when setting superheat and subcooling rather than treating it as a single-component refrigerant.

In a sea of scams this website is legit for your freon needs... I only paid about half for their R22 as I would have on those accredited wholesaler websites. I researched for weeks and then finally pulled the trigger. I’m glad I did as their R22 is the real deal and worked out great for my immediate need. Once my order was placed, I got an email with a link tracking my shipment. It only took 3 business days for my pig of R22 to arrive at my door. Will purchase from again.
