R-422D — Common Questions

Compatibility, lubricant and handling questions technicians ask about R-422D

Why is R-422D the most commonly used R-22 drop-in?

A combination of mineral-oil compatibility, a long field record and wide availability. Technicians know how it behaves, which counts for a great deal when you are converting somebody’s only air conditioning system in July.

Is MO29 the same as R-422D?

Yes. Genetron MO29 is Honeywell’s trade name for R-422D. You will see both on cylinders and in service data.

Does R-422D need the oil changed?

No — it tolerates the existing mineral oil, which is the whole point of the blend. Fit a new filter drier anyway as part of the conversion.

How does R-422D perform at low temperature?

It is used across air conditioning and refrigeration, but capacity behaviour changes with operating conditions, and at lower evaporator temperatures the differences from R-22 become more noticeable. Our R-422D guide goes into where it fits and where it does not.

R-22 Freon was the real thing. My techs say I got a great deal and it worked perfectly on a repair they did to one of my units. Though it seemed like a sketchy website, they shipped it quickly and well packaged. i will use Aero Refrigerant again for my techs needs.

In a sea of scams this website is legit for your freon needs... I only paid about half for their R22 as I would have on those accredited wholesaler websites. I researched for weeks and then finally pulled the trigger. I’m glad I did as their R22 is the real deal and worked out great for my immediate need. Once my order was placed, I got an email with a link tracking my shipment. It only took 3 business days for my pig of R22 to arrive at my door. Will purchase from again.
